The Idea: To explore how repeated rerecording or reinterpretation of material transforms it into something else (think 80's photocopier art or the sound-scapes of Alvin Lucier). To go with the flow and to record and enjoy some of the ways in which individual perception, process and chosen medium progressively distort original subject matter in unpredictable and exciting ways.
The Project: A step by step linear sequence involving Judy photographing Carl's sculptural interventions and Carl making sculptural interventions stemming from Judy's photographs. Each intervention to take less than a day to implement and to be preceded by a brief note from Carl to Judy about the previous photographs and his intentions for the next intervention. Judy in turn to accompany the few photographs sent to Carl at each stage with a note saying why those particular images had been chosen from the many she took.
Basically a little journey in six digressive stages, starting with Judy's visit to the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul and ending with an exhibition at Plymouth University doubling as the final intervention/installation using text, photographs and all the material from Carl's practice deployed in the previous landscape interventions.
